THE 16TH EDITION OF DESIGN MIAMI/ WILL BE HELD IN THE MIAMI DESIGN DISTRICT’S HISTORIC ZAHA HADID ELASTIKA MOORE BUILDING.
Press release Design Miami 2020 Jason Jacques gallery :
We are happy to announce that we’ll be participating in the 16th edition of Design Miami/. This year we will be bringing a selection of works by each of our contemporary artists, designers, and craftsmen.
Gallery Carla Koch has a unique specialism: ceramic and glass objects that usually refer to the container form, but at the same time liberate themselves from their function. They thus move in the interesting no man’s land between visual art and design. The gallery shows different mentalities and presents conceptual as well as architectural and narrative work.
Around honey as the golden-yellow, tongue-caressing ‘sweetener’,
About apiculture and Anthophilia, freely translated into ‘flower worshipper’,
Along the miraculous, ingenious honeycomb, which is both nursery and storage;
To the fragility of existence and the worrying bee mortality.
An expo full of wonder with fascinating artworks and groundbreaking objects and jewellery balancing between contemporary cross-over art and craft.
BeCraft spotlights twelve artists, the first Belgian representatives of Homo Faber. Each offer a unique perspective on the technical mastery of their specific fields related to the applied arts. The collaboration with the Michelangelo Foundation on this exhibition opens up promising perspectives on the question of the sustainability of contemporary applied arts.
They’re all artists who know the pot by heart. They produced it, loved it and still love it. But rather than perpetuating a production of containers, they prefer to divert or rely on the vocabulary of the pottery tradition to express themselves differently, to enjoin this millennial history to be nourished by an original and much more contemporary reflection.
